Carlos Arroyo Scores 3000th Point

Carlos Arroyo reached a milestone in his career when he scored the 3000th point in his NBA career in Orlando Magic’s 115-83 victory over the Chicago Bulls on April 9th. In the Amway Arena, 17, 519 fans watched as Carlos scored 13 points, with four rebounds and six assists in 26 minutes to officially score more than 3000 points in his NBA career. At the age of 28, Carlos becomes the first Puerto Rican in history to score 3000 points in the NBA. “To reach a goal like this is a great gift, but I wasn’t thinking about it”, said Carlos after the match against the Chicago Bulls. “The team goals are more important, like winning the division and making the playoffs”. The Magic became just the third team in the franchise’s history to be crowned champions of the South Eastern Division of the Eastern Conference. During this season’s campaign, they also became the first franchise team since 1996 to win 50 games. They qualified for the playoffs on March 15th courtesy of a 122-111 victory over the Indiana Pacers and went on to lock up the No. 3 playoff seed with a 101-86 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 5th. The team rounded out the regular season with two victories; one 121- 105 away win against Atlanta Hawks, and one at the Amway Arena where they defeated Washington Wizards 103-83 The Magic will open the 2008 playoffs when they face No. 6 seed the Toronto Raptors at the Amway Arena at 12:30pm on Sunday. The Magic and the Raptors met three times during the regular season, with the Magic emerging victorious in two of those encounters, including the lone match-up at Orlando, averaging 105.7 points in total against the Raptors this season. The Magic is 25-21 all-time against the Raptors. The best-of-seven series will last until May 3rd, with the Magic playing four of the seven matches at the Amway Arena. The Orlando Magic has launched an exciting, new brand theme to kick start the 2008 playoffs. “Blue and White Ignite,” encourages the fans and the community to jump into the excitement of the 2008 NBA Playoffs and wear blue and white to ignite the team. Carlos Arroyo was traded to Orlando Magic in February 2006, creating an impact in the Hispanic community and breaking ticket and merchandise sales records for the Orlando Magic. In 2003 he helped lead team Puerto Rico to the Bronze medal in the Olympic qualifying tournament and the following year he led his team to a sixth place finish in the Athens Olympics.
